Many Americans, especially Christians will go to Church to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day. Many churches have special Christmas Carol services and events where the story of Christmas is told.

Christmas Around the World

Christmas Eve is not an official holiday here. Hence most people have to work. However, many workplaces hold Christmas parties or celebrations, so there is a celebratory air to the day. For kids, it is a day of great joy since most schools and other educational establishments are usually closed.

Towns and cities often decorate the streets with lights to celebrate Christmas. Perhaps the most famous Christmas street lights in the USA are at the Rockefeller Center in New York where there is a huge Christmas Tree with a public ice skating rink in front of it over Christmas and the New Year.

Christmas Senses Poem

This is my Christmas Senses poem. christmas looks like families and friends gathering together. Houses and shops are decorated with Christmas decorations and lights.  Christmas feels exsiting to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It feels so special to celebrate the birth of the Lord's son. christmas smells like chicken roasting in the oven. Christmas tastes like rasted chicken, turkey or beef. Christmas sounds like people singing Christmas carols and bells jingling.

My letter to Santa.

 Dear Santa,

I’m not really the type of kid that believes in magic, but if you were real then I would be shocked. Also my Dad already bought me a Christmas present that cost $119. He bought me two presents actually but I’m sharing one of the presents with my brother which is a PS4 game. I don’t want anything else. I never knew that my Dad would actually buy me something that so costly. About me um, well I guess sometimes I misbehave. I mean no one can be perfect, I’m only human after all. Sometimes my Mum says “Shut up to me”, when I say it’s too hot in the car. She doesn’t even think about turning on the air conditioner. If you were to visit me don’t think that I won’t put cookies and milk in front of the chimney. Also why do you go inside peoples houses by going down the chimney instead of using the front door? Also for Christmas I would like more lego sets because it’s fun to build.

Athletics day.

 Athletics day!

Beanbag throw!

I could not wait to do athletics with my friends. I knew that there would be lots and lots of games to play. I was in yellow team. The event we attended was the beanbag throw. I had to throw three beanbags,  into each bucket but I got none of them. Every time I threw the beanbag I didn’t even get one! All of the juniors got at lest one beanbag in a bucket because they were closer to the bucket. I felt so embarrassed because I was almost the only one who didn’t get a beanbag in a bucket. We had fifteen minutes for the the beanbag event.

Skipping Race!

When the beanbag event was over the second event was called skipping race. All we had to do was just skip all the way to the yellow line on the other side and skip back. The second race was to hop to the yellow line and walk backwards to the start. Melody came first and I came second. This took almost twenty minutes of the skipping race. When it was time to swap our principal  Mr.Hadnett, rang the bell all the way at the right side of the field.

Three legged race!

The next event was called the three legged race. My partner was Sisiliah for the race. Me and Sisiliah came first most of the time. It was quite painful but we still won. We also won the final race in the event. This time the school bell rang which meant that it was morning tea time. I ran back to class, I did feel a bit exhausted from the three legged race event.

Sack Race!

When morning tea was over, the next even was called sack race. Mrs D’Souza was hosting the sack race event. Mrs D’Souza told each of us to line up behind a sack and told the rest of the kids in our group stand on the other side of each track. My partner was Sisiliah. Again, Mrs D’souza told us to get inside the sack. “Ready set GO!”, said Mrs D’Souza. I started jumping in the sack to Sisiliah on the other side. While I was jumping in the sack I noticed that there was a hole in the sack where I could put one of my feet outside, but I didn’t want to cheat so I just kept on jumping to Sisiliah, although it was pretty hard. In the sack race event I didn’t come first, I think I came fourth or fifth. I guess I’m not realy good at sack races but I am good at sprinting. When I was about to reach Sisiliah I tripped and fell. But Mrs D’Souza still gave us three points for the event.

Gumboot throw!

Our next event was called gumboot throw. There were four hoops in a row and in each hoop there were two boots, one big and one little boot. The seniors including me had to throw the big boot and juniors had to throw the little boot. The big gumboot was really heavy. The people in my group were Helina and Christina. When I threw the gumboot it only landed nine steps away from me!

Egg and Spoon Race!

The event was hard. Finally when the gumboot throw event was over, our next event was called egg and spoon race. Miss Virginia was hosting the event. Miss Virginia split us into two groups. I was with the team captain Melody, but my friend Alexus was in Sisiliah’s team. Our group was slow and calm but Sisiliah’s team was complaining a bit to each other. “Yaay”, I thought in my mind because my team won the egg and spoon race.

Long Jump!

Next event was called long jump. My teacher Miss paton was hosting the event. First she told all of us to remove our shoes and line up behind each other. I had to look after this girl named cristena because she didn’t realy know what to do because she was little. After a few minutes later it was my turn to have a go in long jump. Miss Paton waved her hand showing me that I could run to the sand pit and jump as high as I could. The first time I tried jumping on the sand pit I didn’t do very well, but the second time I jumped it was amazing. I almost bet everyone, it was fun.

Catch the Tail!

The next event was catch the tail. The first thing we had to do was to wear these black belts. After doing that we had to attach  one tail on the back of the belt. When we were finished, Mr.Tyrell told all of us to spread out in the square. Mr Tyrell picked a tagger for the game. The tagger had to try and get all of our tails until Mr Tyrell blew his whistle. Mr Tyrell told us to get ready to run. In a few seconds Mr Tyrell blew his whistle saying that we could start. In the first round my tail didn’t get caught but on the second round I still didn’t get caught. On the last round I did because there were to many tagers. The last person standing was Sisiliah, but since she was the last person standing she was the tagger for the next round. Just when we were about to start the bell for lunch rang. Mr.Hadnett told us to meet out in front of the library before we did sprinting.

Sprinting!

After lunch the whole school met in front of the library.  Mr.Hadnett told us to sit there because he was going to say how many points each house got. Our house yellow got 4th place, green got third place, blue got second place and red got first place. Next Mr Hadnett told us to sit down on the field in our houses because it was time for sprinting. Many classes went for sprinting. Finally it was my turn I was versing the other year five girls in my class. I was even versing one of my best friend Ayla. “Ready, set, GO!”, said Mr.T , and then we raced all the to the other side of the field. Trelia was in the lead. We were almost there to the finished line aaannd Trelia won! I had no idea which place I came but I know I didn’t come second or third. My parents didn’t come either.

The finale event, Tug of War!

I was so excited to do Tug of War, I couldn’t wait. In that moment I saw my parents on bottom court. But my Dad wanted to stay in the car because it was too cold but my Mum wanted to sit down on the field. The tug of war was about to begin but I had good news and bad news. The good news was that we were one of the houses to be picked for the first round of tug of war but the bad news was that I was versing Ayla again and Ayla was in the blue team.

Mr. Hadnet was in the middle of the rope. The rope was very long. Miss Sullings told all of us to hold on to the rope. Mr.Hadnett counted down from three, “3, 2, 1...GO”. We all started to pull the rope. It was so hard to pull, both of my hands were full of pain. It felt like that my team was a little bit smaller than Ayla’s team but I didn’t mind at all. Guess which house won, well it was blue team. Next round was blue versus green. I hoped that blue would win because Ayla was in that team but sadly Ayla’s team lost and green won. The next round was yellow versus red. Every team on the field cheered for the red team and I was versing one of my friend’s again. This time it was Rocio. When we started pulling red team was strong it was so hard to beat them. But eventually we lost again. The next round was blue versus red which meant Ayla was going to verse Rocio. It looked like the results showed that red won. The final round of the houses were yellow versus green. Green felt very strong just like the red team, they were so strong that some juniors were lifted from the grass holding on to the rope. Of course green won. The next round was red versus teachers. I was confused that if the teachers were going to win or if the red team was going to win. It looked like the teachers won. I think the teachers won because there were adults. The final tug of war was parents versus seniors and teachers including me! I was so excited to do this one because I got to do it with my friends together. “3, 2, 1...GO”, The crowd cheered as we started to pull as hard as we could. I started to feel pain in my hands again. “Come on, pull, pull”, I thought in my head. In the last minute...the seniors and the teachers won! “Awesome, yes” I thought in my head. Oh,  red won the whole athletics and yellow came last. It doesn’t matter because whats important is that we all had fun. The athletics events was finished and my Mum came and walked me to the car to go home, after I got all my stuff in my bag. Athletics day was awesome.
