Mary MacKillop Story . By Rocio and Aadirai
Mary MacKillop Story
By Rocio and Aadirai
Mary MacKillop was born on the 15th of January in 1842.
Her parents were from Scotland, her mother, Flora and her father, Alexander MacKillop. They had 8 children and Mary was the oldest sibling out of all of them. Mary was well educated by her father, but Mary and her family were really poor and didn’t have a home, and they were separated a lot since they were poor.
When Mary was 18 she moved to Penola in South Australia, Where she became a governess to her uncle and aunty’s children, The Camerons. Mary had a dream to educate 4 children. In 1867 she became the first sister of Saint Joseph and wore a black dress. A school opened in Penola in an old stable and she decided to teach children there. Soon young women were inspired by Mary and became sisters with her. They opened schools for the poor and the children in the outback settlement. Mary also opened an orphanage, while the sisters were visiting people in jail.
Her dream was for everyone to be kind. She usually said “Never see a need without doing something about it.” She said this to the sisters and the children. Throughout her life she was misunderstood. Bishop Sheil mistakenly thought Mary was disobedient. Bishop Sheil expelled Mary from the church and also expelled 47 sisters. This hurt Mary very much. Later on, Bishop Sheil realised the mistake he made for expelling Mary, so he welcomed her back to the church. Bishop Roynold told Mary to move to Italy.
Mary suffered from rheumatism, so her right side got paralyzed, she couldn’t walk, she couldn’t stand, but she could talk. A few days later she had to rely on a wheelchair. But the sisters kept on working hard.
Mary died at Mount Street at North Sydney on the 8th of August 1909. After her death, the sisters did a wonderful thing that Mary started.

Room 2's favorite colours. By Aadirai
Room 2’s Favourite colours
Red is the most popular colour in Room 2. Twelve people (34.3%) chose red as their favourite colour. I think most people like red because maybe some of their favourite things are coloured red like an apple or a red T-shirt that they have.

My journey-How did I come here. By Aadirai.
Aadirai’s Journey to New Zealand
I was born in the United Kingdom. Me and my family came to New Zealand in 2014. We came to New Zealand because my Dad was offered a job at Auckland City Hospital to work as a doctor here. We didn’t have family here, but we had friends in New Zealand. We chose New Zealand instead of staying in the United Kingdom because we wanted to try a new place to stay in. Another reason is that Australia and New Zealand gave an offer for a job, so my Dad compared both countries to see which one was better for the job, to stay in and which countries were better to raise children in. It seemed like New Zealand was the best place to live in than Australia. We traveled to New Zealand by plane. Our stops on the way to New Zealand were Singapore and Australia. It took us 24 hours to get to New Zealand from the United Kingdom. I was only three and a half when I got to New Zealand. My brother was only eleven years old. We ended up staying in Auckland because that’s where my Dad’s job was. A friend of my Dad’s came and picked us up from Auckland airport. He showed us places in Auckland for a while. After he showed us around he dropped us to a motel to stay, until we got our own house. The difference between New Zealand and the United Kingdom is that the United Kingdom is bigger and the weather there is freezing cold, but in New Zealand the weather is much more pleasant. Another difference is that there are more beaches here in Auckland than in the United Kingdom. There is more greenery here in New Zealand too. We weren’t home sick because we were excited to come here. New Zealand was a place that we had never been to before. My parents missed their friends from the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom was the country where I went to my first school. We haven’t been to the United Kingdom again. We are hoping to go there again one day because it is my birth place.
